Pumps, Valves and Compressors operate in extreme service conditions and are critical to maintaining the operation of many industrial processes. Some of these conditions include: a wide temperature range from cryogenic to over 500F and higher, constant corrosive fluids, high pressures, high speeds and high wear service.
These service conditions are ideal for plastics and composites and in many cases, extend the service life and operating efficiency of the materials they replace. Converting to plastics and composites from traditional materials like aluminum, metal & bronze in many of these applications offers enhanced chemical resistance, lower weight, lower friction and improved wear resistance.
Some of these applications include bearings, bushings, thrust washers, valve seals and valve components, pump case wear rings and pump impellers, along with rotating compressor labyrinth seals and reciprocating compressor rider and piston seals. Plastics and composites have a proven history of improving efficiency and increasing MTBR (mean time between repair) in these applications and many more.
Some of these materials include Torlon 4540 for labyrinth seals, Fluorosint® 500 for sacrificial / abradable seals, valve seats and seals. Other common materials include PCTFE, PTFE, PEEK, PPS, Delrin, Celazole, Victrex CT200 PAEK, UHMW and many others.
