General Info

BOETEK™ 550 is a high-performance fluoropolymer-based compound reinforced with synthetic mica, specifically engineered for demanding applications.

This compression-molded advanced polymer offers exceptional dimensional stability and superior thermal and mechanical properties. BOETEK™ 550 excels at creating abradable seals for rotating and turbo equipment, providing 9 times greater resistance to deformation than unfilled PTFE and better abradability than Nickel Graphite, Babbitt, and other soft materials.

Other benefits include improved compressive strength compared to unfilled PTFE and impervious to most hydrocarbons, with excellent chemical resistance, including corrosive gases such as Chlorine.

Its unique thermal expansion properties closely match aluminum, minimizing fit and clearance issues.

Additionally, it's one-third harder than standard PTFE, ensuring enhanced wear resistance while maintaining low friction. It also offers a max continuous use temperature of 550°F.

BOETEK™ 550 Mica Reinforced PTFE for reliable, efficient sealing solutions that outperform traditional materials and support higher pressure applications effectively. In many applications, you can upgrade seals, valve seats, and other sealing applications in pumps, valves, and compressor applications with BOETEK™ 550 for increased part life and increased mean time between repairs.

Key Properties

  • Low Deformation Under Load 9X Greater Than Unfilled PTFE
  • No Abrasive to Mating Surface
  • Excellent Chemical Resistance
  • Resistant to Corrosive Gases including Chlorine
  • Outstanding Dimensional Stability, Close to Aluminum

Limitations

  • Lower Mechanical Properties than other high performance materials

Applications

  • Automotive and Truck Turbocharger Abradable Seals
  • Labyrinth sacrificial, Abradable Seals
  • In addition to the security a sacrificial part provides the system, BOETEK 550 Mica Reinforced PTFE allows the introduction of abradable sealing technology where mating parts are allowed to cut their own running clearance and thus permitting significant gains in efficiency.
  • Shrouds
  • Split and one-piece seals
  • Valve Seats and Seals

Boedeker Plastics, Inc. stocks & supplies plastic sheet, rod, tube, film and custom profiles and machine parts from these shapes that are produced from plastic resin. In many cases the manufacturer of the shape has their own product trade name. If your specification calls for a specific resin grade or manufacturer trade name, we can supply a shape made from that resin to meet your specification or suggest an equal. If you require a specific resin or brand it must be specified at the time of order.
