General Info

G-5 and G-9 Laminates (Glass Cloth / Melamine Resin) are very hard, flame resistant, and have excellent electrical properties. G-5 and G-9 have high arc and heat resistance. G-9 is recommended for outdoor environments. They are used for switch board panels, arc barriers, circuit breaker parts, and structural electrical parts Melamine phenolics are available in sheet, rod, and tube forms.

G-5 and G-9 are typically discussed together as one. Both materials consist of woven glass fabric and a melamine resin base. Both materials offer outstanding electrical properties in high humidity environments. Both materials have essentially the same mechanical properties.

The most significant difference is that the G9 offers improved resistance to the elements of the outdoors.  G9 can safely be substituted for G5.
