GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Duratron ® T PAI is the highest performing melt processable plastic. It has superior resistance to elevated temperatures. It is capable of performing under severe stress conditions at continuous temperatures to 500°F (260°C). Parts machined from Duratron ® T PAI stock shapes provide greater compressive strength and higher impact resistance than most advanced engineering plastics. Its extremely low coefficient of linear thermal expansion and high creep resistance deliver excellent dimensional stability over its entire use range. PAI is an amorphous material with a Tg (glass transition temperature) of 537°F (280°C).
Depending upon the method used to produce a stock shape (sheet, rod, or tube), the properties of the resulting material can vary. Generally speaking, the best mechanical properties are exhibited by injection molded material. However, the process used is generally defined by the size and shape of the desired material. For example, small diameter rod and thin sheets are extruded -- larger shapes are compression molded. See the following descriptions and properties table for details.
DURATRON ® ELECTRICAL GRADES (UNFILLED) Duratron T4203 PAI (Extruded)
Duratron ® T4203 extruded PAI offers excellent compressive strength and the highest elongation of the Duratron ® T grades. It also provides electrical insulation and exceptional impact strength. This grade is commonly used for electrical connectors and insulators due to its high dielectric strength.
Extruded Duratron ® T4203 PAI is typically only available in thin sheets and small diameter rods. Check with us for availability of Duratron T4203 PAI in the size you need.
Duratron T4503 PAI (Compression Molded)
Duratron ® T4503 compression molded PAI is the same formulation as Duratron T4203 PAI, but has been made into stock shapes using a different manufacturing process. The resulting material is similar to Duratron T4203 PAI, but has slightly different mechanical properties (see datasheet below).
Compression-molded Duratron ® T4503 PAI is typically available only in larger diameter rods (in short lengths), thicker sheets, and large (but short length) tubes. Check with us for availability of Duratron T4503 PAI in the size you need.
