GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Polyethylenes provide good resistance to organic solvents, degreasing agents and electrolytic attack. They have high impact strength, are light in weight, resistant to staining, and have low moisture absorption rates.
Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW PE) is light weight (1/8 the weight of mild steel), high in tensile strength, and as simple to machine as wood. UHMW PE is self-lubricating, shatter resistant, long-wearing, and abrasion and corrosion resistant. However, it is a tremendous static generator.
If static electricity poses a significant problem in your manufacturing environment, take action by choosing TIVAR® ESD or TIVAR® EC. These electrically conductive Tivar® materials are manufactured by adding carbon powder to the resin, increasing the conductivity of the base UHMW to control static electricity formation or conduction.
NOTE: The conductive carbon powder is mixed thoroughly with the polyethylene resin before the sheets and rods are produced, so the ESD properties are consistent throughout the material, even as it is cut, drilled or otherwise machined. The conductivity/resistivity is consistent throughout the volume of the material ... it is not a surface coating effect.
TIVAR® ESD is an ideal material to use when potentially volatile conditions exist, such as those in grain elevators and munitions plants, effectively safeguarding against static discharges. In addition, it resists heat and protects robotics and other products that are sensitive to dust accumulation and electrical charge buildup. When higher conductivity is needed, TIVAR® EC should be specified.
TIVAR® CleanStat is a tough and corrosion resistant material that prevents build-up of static electricity while meeting FDA, USDA and 3A-Dairy guidelines for food contact. It's self-lubricating properties help reduce wear and noise in processing plants and can also be welded for fabrication of seamless components, such as chute & hopper liners, and vibratory feeder pans.
GRADE DESIGNATIONS:
Tivar ESD = Electro Static Dissipative / Anti-Static
Resistivity between 105 and 109 ohms per square.
Initial electrostatic charges are suppressed.
Tivar EC = Electrically Conductive (CN)
Resistivity less than 105 ohms per square.
No initial charge, provides path for charge to bleed off.
Tivar CleanStat = Food Grade Anti-Static
Resistivity between 107 and 1010 ohms per square.
Initial electrostatic charges are suppressed.
Both TIVAR® ESD and TIVAR® EC are BLACK in color. Both are available in two standard sheet sizes: 48" x 120" sheets with gauge sizes ranging from 1/16" to 6"; and 60" x 120" sheets with gauge sizes ranging from 3/8" to 1". They are also available in rod, board, tube, tape and profiles.
