GENERAL DESCRIPTION
A transparent copolyester with very high impact resistance, Spectar ® sheet is the brand name for extruded Polyethleneterephtalate Glycol (PETG) copolyester sheet.
PETG Copolyester sheet is tough, clear, versatile, easy to work with, chemically resistant, and affordable - making it well-suited for a variety of demanding sheet and glazing applications ranging from store displays to signage.
Spectar ® sheet meets all current food contact legislation and can be used in contact with food. The UV Grade is not intended for food contact.
PETG Copolyester is available ONLY in sheet form, in metric thicknesses of .5 to 6 mm (.020" to .236").
GENERAL PROPERTIES Spectar ® copolyester sheet is tough, yet it machines and thermoform easy. It can be cut with a laser or with a conventional table, band, or radial arm saws with blades commonly used for plastics - without leaving sharp edges and with minimal wear on equipment. It also has superior chemical resistance
PETG Copolyester sheet maintains exceptional clarity during fabrication, heating and vacuum forming without whitening. Surface scratches and scuff marks can be removed using a common heat gun.
Spectar ® Copolyester sheet can be cut, routed, welded, drilled, die-punched, bent cold or hot, and joined by screws, rivets, or bolts. It can be edge-polished, using sanding, solvents, flame polishing, or commercial edge finishing equipment.
PETG Copolyester sheet provides excellent material distribution and part definition during thermoforming - without pre-drying sheets. It forms clear, strong bonds with commercially available cements and solvents. The sheet accepts screen printing, painting, and hot stamping - even registration printing.
Spectar ® sheet causes less breakage overall - in shop, in transportation, in installation, and in use. Once in use, finished products enjoy a long life reducing replacement costs. And no special fabrication equipment is required.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS Crystal-clear Outstanding formability with no need to predry Cold-bends without hazing or cracking Won't turn white when formed or bent Tough, durable, and impact-resistant, allowing downgauging UV-resistant resins available for outdoor applications Resists chipping and cracking, safe to saw and drill Can be punched, die-cut, laser-cut, welded, riveted, and bonded Routes and edge-polishes smoothly Can be screen-printed, painted, and hot-stamped Complies with FDA regulations for food contact Won't turn white with cleaning solutions Common heat gun removes surface scratches and scuff marks Available in standard and custom-matched colors Odor-free UL 94-V2 at 3mm thickness
