GENERAL DESCRIPTION Acetal is the common name for a family of thermoplastics with the chemical name "PolyOxy-Methylene". Acetal is available in a general purpose copolymer grade which provides high strength and stiffness, enhanced dimensional stability, good machinability, a low coefficient of friction and good wear properties. By adding special conductive materials to the resin, the conductivity of acetal is increased to control static electricity formation or conduction.
These additives may be in the form of non-carbon alloys, carbon powder, or carbon fibers. Some properties of the original acetal copolymer are modified by the addition of fillers, but chemical resistance, strength, and manufacturability remain generally the same.
AntiStatic materials are available in NATURAL and BLACK colors, conductive material is always BLACK in color.
( see also Standard Acetal and Semitron ESd 225 Static-Dissipative Acetal )
Static Dissipative / Anti-Static (SD) :
Resistivity generally between 107 and 1012 ohms per square.
Initial electrostatic charges are suppressed.
Conductive (CN) :
Resistivity generally between 103 and 106 ohms per square.
No initial charge, provides path for charge to bleed off.
