GENERAL PROPERTIES
PEEK is an abbreviation for PolyEtherEther-Ketone, a high performance engineering thermoplastic. PEEK grades offer chemical and water resistance similar to PPS (PolyPhenylene Sulfide), but can operate at higher temperatures. PEEK can be used continuously to 480°F (250°C) and in hot water or steam without permanent loss in physical properties. For hostile environments, PEEK is a high strength alternative to fluoropolymers. PEEK carries a V-O flammability rating and exhibits very low smoke and toxic gas emission when exposed to flame. And unfilled PEEK received FDA approval in late 1998!
FEATURES Excellent chemical resistance Very low moisture absorption Inherently good wear and abrasion resistance Unaffected by continuous exposure to hot water or steam
PROPERTY COMPARISON FOR VIRGIN PEEK PEEK (Unfilled) - Processed by Injection Molding
PEEK may be injection molded for small components and small diameter rod only. The properties of the resulting material differ slightly from PEEK as extruded or compression molded.
PEEK (Unfilled) - Processed by Extrusion
PEEK may be extruded for small diameter rod and thin sheets/plates only. The properties of the resulting material differ slightly from PEEK as injection molded or compression molded.
PEEK (Unfilled) - Processed by Compression Molding
PEEK must be compression molded for any large section components, especially large diameter rod, thick sheets/plates, or thick-walled tubes. The properties of the resulting material differ slightly from PEEK as injection molded or extruded.
